I. Ask about the reason for something in Chinese with “怎么+Adj/Verb”, indicating surprise or astonishment.

1. Conversation

A:你知道小王今天什么时候来学校吗?
[nǐ zhī dào xiǎo wáng jīn tiān shén me shí hou lái xué xiào ma ?] Do you know when Xiao Wang will come to school today?

B:他已经来了。
[tā yǐ jīng lái le 。] He is already here.

A:你怎么知道他来了?
[nǐ zěn me zhī dào tā lái le ?] How do you know?

B:我在门外看见他的自行车了。
[ wǒ zài mén wài kàn jiàn tā de zì xíng chē le 。] I saw his bike outside the door.
